How do you get a visa and legitimatie?

As of November 2002, Americans automatically get a 3 month visa when they enter Romania. The stamp in their passport is proof.

1. Have your sponsoring Romanian foundation write two letters.

a. one is to the Directorate or Ministry that you fall under (Directorate of Health, Ministry of Religion, etc.) requesting approval for the visa.

b. the second one is to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Passport Office requesting approval for the visa.

2. Take letter 1a. to the appropriate office. They will give you a letter of approval from the Ministry.

3. Make a copy of your apartment rental contract that has the Mayor's stamp on it.

4. Pay fee at the Treasury at 26 Str. Gheorghe Lazar. (Hours 9-12 M-F) Get receipt.

($65 for those who are under the Ministry of Religions.---al
30,000 lei and 800 lei for those under the Ministry of Health)

5. Take documents 1b, 2, 3, and 4 with two photographs (if you are getting a new Legitimatie) to the Ministry of Internal Affairs Passport Office on Str. Lipovei (Phone: 191772. Hours 9-13, 16-18 M-F.) Complete a Cerere form.

6. Wait a couple of days and you have it!
