Preamble: Hundreds of thousands of people are being deceived by the Presbyterian Church in America, a religious group which will often advertize itself as Christian and "reformed". Of course, many of the members are loving, ethical, Bible believing Christians, just like many Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons are. Yes, they practice many of the same techniques as these groups. From the pulpit PCA churches tell their followers that they believe the Bible. Yet, as you will see, when I tried to hold them to Biblical principles of truth and love, they produced a book called the Book of Church Order (BCO). Like the Book of Mormon is for the Mormons, the BCO is a book of conduct held in higher authority than the Bible. I spent several years studying the group in Reisterstown, MD, and participating in their activities. I thought what I discovered might be characteristic only of that assembly. Instead, the more I investigated up the chain of command, the more they deferred from the Bible to the BCO. Hence this letter.

Dear Honorable President,

Enclosed is an e-mail sent to the Chesapeake Presbytery ("the Presbytery") containing two letters recommending that the Presbytery take a path to reconciling Covenant of Grace PCA, Reisterstown, MD (CoG) and myself. Also enclosed is a letter from my pastor who began marriage counseling with my wife and me until my wife refused to continue.

As the girls' [former] therapist [Mrs. R.] states, my children are suffering in many ways due to the actions of CoG. Mr. David Green, PCA leader and missionary to students in Bethlehem, PA, also attempted to advocate reconciliation to the Presbytery. However, the Presbytery has not followed BCO 31 or 32 (specifically 32-15 step 4) due to a vague allegation of litigiousness which Mrs. R testifies is not a characteristic that can factually be attributed to me, especially since four therapists, three church leaders, our pediatrician, and I have exhausted all known modes to reconciliation with CoG and the mother of my daughters. These efforts have not led to so much as even one face-to-face meeting. It is sad that a religious organization that advertises itself as believing God reconciles us to himself, has refused to make the effort at reconciliation that Jewish and secular individuals have. Is the PCA church more exclusive than their God?

However,

1. the Presbytery and CoG (especially Mr. and Mrs. Hard) advocated that my wife abandon our marriage due to, as Mr. Persons put it, "her fears associated with you" (which Dr. Friedman and Mrs. R also say are unfounded). I know of no major religion or society where "fear" is a "fault" grounds for divorce. I feared my ex-wife innumerable times for many years but I didn't abandon the marriage.;

2. CoG has not only not followed a path of reconciliation but has gone as far as to report to the police two e-mails I sent to seek their help in reconciling including one containing an analogy between my experience and the movie "Miracle on 34th Street";

3. CoG leadership continues to slander me; and

4. there has been no response to letters from therapists alerting the Presbytery of CoG actions alienating my children from me.

My 15 years of service as a missionary and church leader did not prepare me for the resistance I've met to efforts reconciling marriages and leaders. Therefore, after two years of resistance by the Presbytery, no response from the Presbytery to the 12/31/19 letter by Mrs. R., I hereby escalate my requests to the PCA denomination:

  • 1. To follow BCO 31 and 32 to investigate the numerous actions (including my case) that have divided households and caused loving Christians to leave the denomination.
  • 2. To support parental relationships (including mine) instead of encouraging baseless abandonment of marriage, especially when minor children are involved.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Best regards,

    Laurent (LJ) La Brie
