How do you register a car? (persoana fizica)

...in Timisoara

As of January 6, 2000 Contributor: L.J. La Brie

1. Complete an act of Buying/Selling with any notary. Ensure that the Certificat de Radiere on the bottom is signed and stamped by the Rutiera Police.

2. Take act of Buying/Selling to the mayor's office of the seller to have the car removed from their records.

3. Insure car with any insurer. (Ardaf Phone number: 192809)

4. Ensure you have the Cartea de Itentitate a Vehiculului with the name of the previous owner on the first page rubberstamped. Note the number in the block with that person's name in it. On the back there must be a rubberstamp in the block with the same number. This rubberstamp is obtained at the Rutiera Police station.

5. If you are going to register it in a judet different from where the seller sold it, you will need temporary plates from the Rutiera Police. You pay a deposit which you get back if you return them within 30 days.

6. Make a photocopy of your passport front page and your visa.

7. Make a photocopy of pages 2 and 3 of your Legitimatie.

8. Pay 109,000 lei at Cec. (Check for current price. One Cec office is on Str. Aradului near the intersection with Circumvalatiune.) and get receipt.

9. Pay tax at the Treasury. (I'm not sure if this function has now moved from the Treasury office near the Bega mall to Str. Gheorghe Lazar 26 or not.)

10. Pay Mayor's Tax. (12,000 lei)

11. Insure that the technical inspection is current by looking on the back of the Certificat de Inmatriculare. If not, you will have to get the car inspected.

12. Take 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 with the Certificat de Inmatriculare to the Rutiera Police on Circumvalatiune near the Shell gas station and train overpass. You can pay 90,000 here and get personalized plates if you like.

12. Wait a month and you have your new Certificat de Inmatriculare.
